NYC Hip Hop Artist, Lee Chanes, is pleased to release "Earthquake" for digital download with Island/Def Jam on January 18th 2010. 

Lee Chanes has committed that a portion of the proceeds from the downloads of “Earthquake” go directly to supporting the people of Haiti.

This is an open letter to all my fans, friends, and family as well…

On January 22, I will be releasing a single called “Earthquake” that will be released under the Island/Def Jam imprint. Immediately a few things run through my mind... 

MAINLY- I question is this record relevant in light of what’s going on in Haiti right now. And honestly, I believe it is! The reason I believe it is because the song is about overcoming your struggles and hardships just as the people in Haiti will be doing once things get better. I totally understand what it is to lose family members. I lost both of my parents and it left me with a very empty feeling in my heart. It was hard some days to even deal with life and its everyday struggles we go through. However, I overcame tragedy and used it as a building block to make things better for myself and let all the pieces come together. That’s just natural progression. 

I make music that appeal to everyone, not just one particular race of people or a specific music fan. I believe I was given this platform to express myself freely and also to make people come together for one common cause. I will be donating a percentage of the proceeds to help those in Haiti because I want to do my part to aid during these difficult times. I was blessed to be in this position and I believe I must pay it forward. 

So please… I urge to focus on the positive nature of this record and the honest desire I have to help bring it to the public. I want to share it’s overall positive spirit and joyfulness. I want you to get up and dance and celebrate life… no matter what comes your way! 

I am proud that Island/ Def Jam chose this as my 1st song to release, and it was actually decided for release before the tragedy. And I feel confident that partnering my efforts to bring this music to the public and bring awareness to this tragedy fit naturally and could lead to good additional support for Haiti.
